The Dosimetrist works under the direct supervision of the Director and Radiation Physicist. Assists in treatment planning procedures, including tumor localization, virtual simulation and dosimetry, isodose plans, and all calculations associated with such planning. Assists physicist in quality assurance of treatment machines. Assists physician and physicists in brachytherapy procedures and in the radiation safety surveys associated with those procedures. > Additional Information Help for Additional Information.   • Dose calculations.
  • Inputting data, precise hand/eye coordination, fine motor skills, and machine calibration. Interpersonal Skills
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and ability to interact well with all department personnel. Essential Physical Requirements
  • Ability to operate computer treatment planning system. Essential Mental Abilities
  • Must be able to understand and comprehend radiation oncologist's prescription, and analyze and interpret data and x-ray films in order to calculate dosages for treatments.
  • Must be able to explain calculations and plans.
  • All of the above requires good long and short-term memory, concentration and alertness and following instructions. Essential Sensory Requirements
  • Must have vision to calculate dosages and do various aspects of job related to same.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors in order to see color contours from isodose distributions. Exposure to Hazards
  • Exposed to radioactive material during brachytherapy.
  • Slight risk of radiation exposure within the department from the linear accelerators and x-ray equipment.
  • Eye, neck and wrist strain from keyboard\mouse work.
