Job Description

Full Time, 40 Hour Position Join us for an exciting opportunity to achieve the positive community impact of a municipal animal shelter while benefiting from the depth of experience and opportunity of the MSPCA! We are looking for a Clinic Supervisor to provide skilled veterinary care and oversight for the MSPCA veterinary program operating in partnership with Thomas J O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center (TJO) in Springfield. The Supervisor will work inside TJO in close collaboration with MSPCA veterinarian(s) and TJO team members to assure and maintain the health of the animals in the shelter, providing individual and population level medical care as well as establishing shelter medicine policies and protocols. The Supervisor will also be integral to increasing access to low-cost veterinary care in Springfield through coordination with MSPCA Community Outreach team members to support existing programs. The Clinic Supervisor, working in partnership with
MSPCA & TJO
leadership, will help develop future low-cost veterinary programs for owned pets in the community.
What you will do:
Communicate effectively within and across teams, fostering a work environment rooted in collaboration, feedback, curiosity, and comradery. Exhibit professionalism, compassion, fairness, and consistency in attitude. Demonstrate excellent judgment and the willingness to positively influence others. In consultation with the veterinarian(s), engage in pathway planning conversations with TJO leadership, acting as a key voice for population and individual animal health and well-being. Communicate compassionately and clearly with members of the public, including adopters, about medical conditions and concerns. Provide post-adoption support regarding medical issues and questions in alignment with TJO adoption policies. Demonstrate proficiency in animal restraint including low stress handling techniques for all patients. Advocate for superior handling and demonstrate and help others troubleshoot effective low stress handling solutions. Assist the veterinarians and other team members with medical and surgical procedures. This includes working knowledge of venipuncture, IV catheter placement, intubation, cystocentesis, surgical preparation, monitoring anesthetized patients and their recovery, taking radiographs. Prepare anesthetic drugs for surgical patients based on clinic protocols; maintain controlled substance logs. Physical Requirements Ability to stoop, bend, kneel and stand for prolonged periods of time. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more with assistance and up to 25 pounds independently.
COMPENSATION
Starting $30-$38/hr Please note that candidates with additional experience or credentials may be eligible for compensation aligned with their qualifications.
What you have:
We are looking for candidates with a minimum of 5 years of veterinary practice experience. Advanced technical skills are required and being a CVT within the state of Massachusetts is preferred.
