Kennel Manager Position:
Kennel Manager Summary :
Responsible for supervising and training kennel staff while participating in the care and maintenance of the kennel complex and providing quality care to dogs and puppies housed in the kennels. The Kennel Manager must possess a thorough knowledge of canine health and general dog care as well as kennel operations. Reports to the President.

Kennel Manager Responsibilities :
  • Upon approval of Supervisor, coordinates purchases and maintains all equipment used for kennel care and kennel staff; inventories all equipment on a regular basis to ensure control and functionality.
  • Develops and conducts performance feedback on team members; develops and conducts annual performance evaluations.
  • Develops and implements appropriate incentives and bonus programs to drive team members' performance.
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures to ensure staff safety is maintained in the Kennel environment.
  • Coordinates all audits from outside entities for kennel operations and develops and implements internal controls to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations.
  • Ensures proper kennel staffing and coverage and oversees staff and volunteer scheduling.
  • Prioritizes and coordinates daily, weekly and monthly duties of kennel technicians and ensure adherence to rules and procedures.
  • Participates in HK9 training and organizes and conducts regular staff meetings; participates in meetings, educational sessions and other group forums.
  • Maintains constant communication with management and other lines of business (working dog, service dog, K9 education and pet dog programs) to ensure business needs are met.
  • Actively recruits, interviews and makes recommendations for hiring kennel staff and respond to inquiries from applicants.
  • Oversee and participates in staff training in all kennel management details, including kennel cleaning and maintenance procedures and canine health maintenance and treatments that occur in a kennel environment for staff and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with management to ensure consistency in standards of kennel and dog care.
  • Ensures cleanliness of individual kennels and maintains a sanitary kennel environment.
  • Oversees, and if needed, provides basic and specialized care to kenneled dogs, including feeding, walking, exercising, basic grooming and bathing.
  • Oversee and administer basic treatments and medications for individual dogs, as well as assuring consistency and accuracy of the administration within the kennels.
  • Monitors inventory of and order kennel supplies and dog food; ensures that inventory and supplies are properly stored and maintained.
  • Oversee the preparation and dispense of dog food, ensuring adjustment of food amounts is made according to the dog's needs.
  • Transports dogs and puppies into crates as needed.
  • Handles dogs of various temperaments including fearful dogs.
  • Maintains written records of dogs moving into or out of kennels, individual dog care, and behavior.
  • Assists in finding adequate and appropriate space for incoming dogs.
  • Maintains kennel protocols and procedural records.
  • Responsible for consistently reviewing the training environment to ensure a safe and secure situation is provided for all students and staff and any bystanders. A training time out will be called for any imminent safety issues observed and will be immediately reported to your supervisor.
