Job Description

FULL TIME ADOPTION COORDINATOR/KENNEL MANAGER

The Adoption Coordinator/Kennel Manager oversees the daily operations of the kennel and adoption program, ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of dogs in care. This role is responsible for animal assessments, photography, profiling, staff supervision and training, kennel maintenance, and coordination with veterinary and management teams. The position requires strong leadership skills, the ability to manage a team of up to ten employees, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of animal care, cleanliness, and safety. Key responsibilities include monitoring animal health, enforcing cleaning and sanitization protocols, managing staffing coverage, communicating operational needs to senior management, and supporting successful adoptions through accurate animal profiling. The ideal candidate is passionate about animal welfare, experienced in animal care and team leadership, capable of handling dogs of all breeds and sizes, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Qualifications include a high school diploma, relevant animal care education or experience, at least one year of supervisory experience (preferably in a shelter, rescue, or veterinary setting), a valid driver's license with a clean driving record, and the ability to pass a criminal background check.
DUTIES:
  • Performs cat testing, photographing and profiling of the dogs in our care
  • Ensures the cleanliness of the kennel and yards.
  • Thoroughly trains staff to clean, feed, properly handle and provide appropriate care for the dogs in the kennel.
  • Supervises assigned staff to perform required duties.
  • Identifies health issues of dogs in the kennel.
  • Performs related work as needed.
  • Communicates with senior management regarding client issues, staff, kennel and yard maintenance, and kennel inventory needs
  • Communicates with senior staff and veterinary staff regarding animal health issues
  • Manages coverage for call-outs
  • Understands and enforces proper cleaning and sanitizing protocols
REQUIREMENTS
  • MUST
LOVE DOGS
  • Ability to safely handle and care for dogs of all breeds and sizes
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Sufficient visual and hearing acuity, and physical ability to engage safely in all assigned duties
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors year round
  • Ability to proficiently use a computer, and job-related software, internet and wireless technologies for communications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, holidays and/or on-call.
  • Ability to manage a team of ten
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma
  • Certificate or degree in relevant animal care, OR experience in relevant animal care
  • One year of supervisory experience; animal shelter, veterinarian, rescue or other relevant animal care preferred
OR:
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities
SALARY AND BENEFITS
  • Starting at $24 per hour
