INTRODUCTION
The Dental Director provides clinical, administrative, and strategic leadership for the Dental Department at DCWMHC. This role focuses on delivering high-quality restorative dental services, decreasing referrals to outside specialists by expanding in-house capability, and fostering a strong culture of education, mentorship, and skill development among dental staff. The Dental Director ensures compliance with Tribal regulations, HRSA and 330 requirements, FQHC standards, AAAHC accreditation requirements, and all federal/state dental practice laws.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Leadership & Restorative Dentistry Provide comprehensive general and restorative dental care, including fillings, crowns, bridges, endodontic therapy (when within scope), removable prosthodontics, and restorative management of disease. Expand clinic capacity by increasing the range of restorative and advanced procedures performed in-house. Reduce external referrals by evaluating service gaps, adding new service lines, training staff, and redesigning workflows. Conduct complex treatment planning with a focus on culturally responsive and patient-centered care. Maintain high clinical standards, including infection control, charting accuracy, and compliance with AAAHC and HRSA requirements. Teaching, Mentorship & Workforce Development Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and chair-side teaching for dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, externs, and trainees. Develop and implement internal training programs to improve restorative skills and overall clinic capability. Lead regular clinical case reviews, peer review meetings, and quality improvement sessions. Support career development pathways for Tribal community members entering dental support roles. Program & Operational Leadership Provide direct supervision to dental staff including dentists, hygienists, assistants, and support staff. Oversee scheduling templates to optimize provider productivity, restoratively focused visits, and same-day treatment opportunities. In partnership with the CMO, develop policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines for the Dental Department. Coordinate with Medical, Behavioral Health, and Community Health departments to maintain integrated, whole-person care. Ensure compliance with all dental licensing, credentialing, scope-of-practice, and privileging requirements. Quality Improvement & Data Management Lead QI initiatives focused on restorative outcomes, improved access, decreased wait times, and improved continuity of care. Monitor key metrics including sealants, caries risk reduction, no-shows, productivity, UDS measures, and referral rates. Use data to guide strategic planning for clinic growth, service expansion, and resource allocation. Community & Tribal Engagement Support culturally sensitive dental care aligned with Tribal values, traditions, and community needs. Participate in community education, prevention programs, school outreach, oral health promotion, and Tribal events. Work collaboratively with Tribal Health leadership and committees to align services with community priorities. Administrative Duties Assist with annual budgeting, equipment purchasing, supply management, and dental capital planning. Oversee infection control, OSHA compliance, radiation safety, and emergency preparedness for the dental clinic. Participate in executive leadership meetings and contribute to organization-wide projects, including HRSA site visit prep. Maintain timely and complete documentation in the EHR and dental imaging systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school. Valid, unrestricted U.S. dental license (state-specific license required within defined timeframe). Three (3) or more years of clinical dental experience, with demonstrated competency in restorative dentistry. Two (2) years of leadership, supervisory, or program management experience. Current BLS certification; ACLS preferred. DEA registration and ability to obtain required privileges. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a Tribal health program, IHS/638 clinic, or FQHC. Experience teaching, mentoring, or precepting dental staff or students. Experience with quality improvement, productivity optimization, and operational redesign. Experience reducing specialty referrals by expanding clinic capability (endo, prosth, pediatric cases, etc.). Knowledge of

requirements, UDS reporting, AAAHC/JC accreditation, and value-based oral health models. In accordance with the requirements of the Health Center Manual, employee of this position, as a condition of employment, must document immunity to Rubella & Measles. Influenza vaccine is recommended for all health workers in contact with patients. The employee must be suitable for Tribal employment in your position as determined by fingerprint check results and appropriate background investigation. An incumbent found not suitable after hire will be removed from this position. The employee is required to operate a tribal-owned or leased motor vehicle, commercial motor vehicle, rental motor vehicle or privately owned motor vehicle in the performance of official duties. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.
