Non-Exempt Job Summary:
The scanner receives, scans and saves patient medical record information on the computer to be more effectively accessed through the Allscripts EMR system.
Essential Responsibilities:
The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all associates in this classification. Listed are duties intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Sorting and preparing medical records, analyzes documents for destination, established best resolution in scanned reproduction. Scans documents as required following documented process. Accuracy and quality are essential as the EMR is the legal patient medical record for the organization. Uses extensive knowledge of medical record forms and content to perform quality checks on the scanned documents. Matches patient scanned files with provider. Contacts other hospitals, physicians and laboratories to request needed, released medical records. Disposes of documents and files through
LRHC HIPPA
compliant processes. Communicates with patients regarding the status of their records. Adjusts workload to handle priority needs and requests. Assists the medical records department with processing records for release.
Requirements:

Experience:
High school diploma or GED required. Computer proficiency with outlook, word, excel required. Familiarity with scanner operation preferred.
Language Skills:

Knowledge:
Knowledge of computers, scanners. Knowledge of clinic medical chart forms and the filing process HIPPA regulations and compliance.
Skills:
Skill in solving practical problems. Good customer service skills. Attention to detail.
Abilities:
Ability to analyze scanned document for quality of the scan, as well as appropriateness of the information being placed in the legal medical record Ability to stay organized. Ability to manage time and work independently.
Equipment Operated:
Wide range of standard office equipment. Computer use and proficiency required.
Work Environment:
Standard offices in Health Center or satellite offices if required. Controlled lighting, air quality, and temperature settings. Environmental hazards may be unpredictable including exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards.
Mental/Physical Requirements:
Involves standing, walking, kneeling, bending, grasping, manipulating and squatting and lifting (up to 50 pounds). Walking or standing may be more than two (2) hours per day. Must be able to work in a standard medical office setting including use of a computer, and standard office equipment. Must have ability to read computer screens, printed materials and hearing and speech to communicate in person as well as over the phone. Must be able to attend meetings at various sites when required. Stress can be triggered by workload.
