Medical Records Specialist US Heart & Vascular - 3.2 Lafayette, LA Job Details Part-time 1 day ago Qualifications OSHA (regulatory compliance area) Record keeping Labeling Maintaining patient confidentiality Medical office experience HIPAA High school diploma or GED Stocking 1 year Patient charting Managing patient records Entry level File organization Full Job Description US Heart and Vascular is in need of a Part-time Medical Records Specialist to join our team at Cardiology Specialists of Acadiana in Lafayette, LA. Responsibilities Properly identifies patient chart pulled by matching name AND date of birth and/or social security number. Files all medical records alphabetically by patient last name, first name. Assembles charts according to prescribed chart order. Ensures proper chart labeling and color coding prior to filing. Receives faxes of medical information and presents with chart for nurse/doctor timely review. Pulls charts for patient messages and gives to nurse within 2 hours of call; quicker if STAT. Locates and retrieves patient charts for daily clinic schedules. Adheres to HIPAA guidelines and Louisiana laws regarding release of information requests. Responds to all valid requests for medical records from patients, physicians and healthcare facilities within 7 days of receipt. Obtains medical info on new patients and routes to patient's pending folder or chart. Purges medical files as outlined. Documents notes in each account of information released, to whom it was released and the date of released. Maintains an accurate file system for patient forms. Maintains and re-stocks medical record chart supplies; notifies appropriate personnel of inventory for purchasing. Adhere to OSHA guidelines and participates in safety program. Fosters a positive working environment that is responsive to patient needs. Perform any other services deemed reasonable by physician or supervisor.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of one year's experience in a medical office or other healthcare setting. Knowledge of Louisiana release of information laws; patient confidentiality/HIPAA regulations
