Job Description

Job Summary:
Responsible for supervising daily outpatient coding operations to ensure coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance. Provides direct oversight of staff performance, training, and workflow management. Supports revenue integrity by collaborating with providers, auditors, and revenue cycle leadership to resolve escalated issues. Monitors quality and implements process improvements.
Essential Functions:
  • Supervises outpatient coding staff, assigning workloads and monitoring performance.
  • Conducts performance evaluations, provides feedback, and develops staff training plans.
  • Ensures compliance with ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, payer requirements, and organizational standards.
  • Resolves escalated coding and documentation issues in collaboration with providers.
  • Monitors productivity and quality metrics and prepares reports for leadership.
  • Oversees coding audits, develops corrective actions, and ensures adoption of best practices.
  • Assists with budgeting, staffing, and scheduling for coding operations.
  • Supports onboarding and ongoing development of coding staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement:
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience Requirement:
0-4 years of related/progressive experience An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. All experience must be paid and in the same related field. Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week. Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.
Certifications & Licensures:
RHIA Certification, CPMA, Certified Coding Specialist (CCS),Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder Apprentice (CPC-A), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based (CCS-P), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or equivalent required
