The Medical Records Technician II is responsible for processing incoming pathology reports (electronic and paper documents) to code medical diagnoses according to Minnesota Cancer Reporting System (MCRS) policies and procedures. The employee will work closely with the Data Management Supervisor, Director of Operations, and Oncology Data Specialists (ODS) in the daily activities of the MCRS.
Primary responsibilities include:
+ Process incoming data, electronic and paper source documents, for the Minnesota Cancer Reporting System. + Assist in the quality assurance and control functions of the Minnesota Cancer Reporting System. _In accordance with HR/LR Policy #1422 Telework, this position is eligible for up to 50% telework for applicants who live in Minnesota or in a bordering state within 50 miles of the assigned work location. Candidates residing outside of Minnesota or in a bordering state within 50 miles of the assigned work location at the time of application must be able to relocate to Minnesota within 30 days of their start date. The telework policy may exempt employees who live more than 50 miles from their primary work location from the 50% in-office requirement, depending on job requirements, helping the State of Minnesota access top talent across the state._ MDH relies heavily on grant funding, in addition to state appropriated dollars. As an agency, we continually monitor funding levels and navigate some degree of uncertainty related to grant cycles and the impact of the grant funding on program priorities. This position is currently funded and approved to be filled. While the position is funded at this time, future funding is dependent on the continuation of our funding sources. The Minnesota Department of Health works proactively to sustain programs and maintain our workforce, to avoid reductions in force to the very best of our ability. In the event of a loss of funding resulting in a necessary workforce reduction, that process is governed by our collective bargaining agreements and compensation plans.
  • Position locations will be determined by the top candidate and will be based out one of the following MDH district office locations: St. Paul, St. Cloud, Duluth, Rochester, Marshall, Bemidji, Fergus Falls.
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • T _he following minimum qualifications must be clearly demonstrated on the applicant's resume/application to be considered for this position:_ One (1) year experience in medical records work as an American Health Information Management Association professional (AHIMA), an Accredited Record Technician (ART), or as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
Experience must include each of the following: + Coding of medical diagnoses and familiarity with oncology-specific coding standards. + Use of the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology (ICD-O) or ICD-10 coding systems. + Experience with database management and data entry systems used in medical or health records work. Minimum Qualifications to be Assessed at
Interview:
+ Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and disease etiology. + Ability to communicate effectively, written and verbal, including the ability to clearly communicate complex medical information. + Ability to work independently and establish work goals. + Ability to work within a team to accomplish work objectives. + Ability to maintain data privacy as required by federal and state laws and MCRS rules. + Adequate time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • + Two (2) years of experience working in a cancer registry. + Certification as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS).
  • Additional Requirements
  • + This position requires successful completion of a background check and employment reference check.
