Job Description

Position Summary Lifecare Community Health Center is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Records Technician to join our team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate, secure, and confidential patient health records while supporting providers, staff, and patients through efficient management of medical information. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to protecting patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Essential Responsibilities Scan, index, and upload clinical documentation into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Review and process medical record requests in compliance with HIPAA and applicable regulations. Release medical records through fax, mail, electronic transmission, or other approved methods. Maintain accurate and complete patient records. Merge duplicate patient charts and update patient status as needed. Route documentation and faxes to appropriate providers and clinical staff. Answer patient inquiries and assist with medical records requests. Support quality improvement, risk management, and compliance initiatives. Distribute incoming mail to appropriate departments. Complete required annual training and compliance education. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
High School Diploma or GED. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle Protected Health Information (PHI). Strong organizational and multitasking skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Professional demeanor and customer service skills.
Preferred:
Previous medical records, healthcare administration, or medical office experience. Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Certification Requirements Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive office tasks. Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to work with computers, telephones, scanners, fax machines, and office equipment. Why Join Lifecare?
