Description Benefits and Records Technician (Central Processing): Benefit and Records Technicians (BRT) play a vital role delivering Social Security benefits and services to the public. Benefit and Records Technicians perform a variety of activities involving analyzing, investigating, identifying, coding, reconciling, updating and adjusting earnings data reported by employers, and benefit data reported by recipients and representative payees. In addition, you would be responsible for providing the public with information about SSA's programs and services, obtaining information to determine eligibility for the benefits SSA administers, and updating records using SSA's computer systems.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen and have excellent communication and people skills. We consider additional qualifications such as experience, education, or a combination of experience and education.
- GS-5: Experience applying rules and providing customer assistance, or a 4-year college degree
- GS-6: Advanced experience with data-entry, reviewing documents, and communicating with the public.
- Education and experience may be combined for GS-5 level.
