Full Job Description Position:
Full-time, on-site position from 8am-5pm with a 1-hour unpaid lunch
General Summary of Duties:
Responsible for tasks such as data entry, payment posting, completing and updating registration information, and some precertification tasks. Performs various clerical duties including answering telephones, sorting mail, etc.
Supervisor:
Revenue Cycle Manager/Clinic Manager Supervisory Responsibilities:
None Major Responsibilities/Tasks:
Split between the billing department and front office.
Billing Department:
1. Answer telephone calls, voicemails, emails and internal messages in a professional, courteous and timely manner. 2. Review appointments within the Practice Management (PM) system and ensure accurate registration/billing information for patients so claims are billed correctly. 3. Assist with prior authorizations for both medical services and travel for patient visits. 4. File billing documents in appropriate sections of patient charts and keep items in proper order. 5.
Handle claims reimbursements:
Post insurance and patient payments onto appropriate accounts and properly file documents. 6. Handle mail processes and scan documents into the appropriate billing folders and disperse to the proper staff. 7. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times, to include handling files and records in a manner compliant with HIPAA regulations. 8. Perform other related duties as directed or assigned by management.
Front Desk :
1. Provide back-up for patient check-in and phone triage. 2. Review and enter patient referrals into PM system. 3. Triage incoming faxes as needed.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or
GED. EXPERIENCE
At least one year of administrative experience in a medical office. Some registration, billing or precertification experience is preferred.
Performance Requirements:
: 1. Knowledge of typical clinic policies and procedures. 2. Knowledge of medical terminology and general insurance/billing practices. 3. Knowledge of computer programs and applications. 4. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type from draft copy and review and edit reports and correspondence. 5. Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make calculations, balance and reconcile figures, and make changes accurately. 6. Knowledge of
EPIC EMR
is ideal. : 1. Skill in operating office equipment. 2. Skill in handling paperwork/filing adequately. 3. Skill in handling incoming phone calls and triaging appropriately. 4. Skill in written and verbal communication. : 1. Ability to type 60 words per minute using word-processing software. Able to learn/use other computer programs including Microsoft® Excel, e-mail, Internet, and Microsoft® PowerPoint. 2. Ability to work effectively as a team member with other staff and perform tasks with little supervision. 3. Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems. 4. Ability to interpret and understand insurance benefits and reimbursement. 5. Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands, as well as organize and prioritize tasks effectively. 6. Ability to communicate clearly, both verbal and written. 7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.
Equipment Operated:
Office machinery including computers, fax, scanner, calculator, and photocopier. Occasionally lift and carry items up to 20 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work performed in office environment at a single desk. Involves frequent contact with staff and patients. May require working under stressful conditions.
Mental/Physical Requirements:
Manual dexterity for office machine operation including computer and calculator; stooping, bending to handle files and supplies, mobility to complete errands or deliveries, or sitting for extended periods of time. Stress can be triggered by multiple demands and deadlines.
