Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Medical Surgical Director or delegate, assists in planning, organizing, implementing, scheduling, perform payroll corrections from exception log, over-seeing, and evaluating the activities of the Unit Secretaries by being on-call and available to assist, direct, educate, and answer questions that arise. Also assists the ED Director with Special Projects, and performs clerical duties as requested.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
(not all inclusive): Performs clerical functions for physicians within the Unit Secretary's sphere of responsibility. Answers telephone, takes messages, and communicates messages to the appropriate person. Assists patients and visitors in department as needed. Performs clerical duties related to the admission, and discharge and transfer of patients. Orders supplies and equipment; receives and places items in their proper storage area. Assists in orientation of new staff to clerical duties of the unit. Initiates chart forms for patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and expirations; files, reports test results in a timely manner; ensures that all information is recorded with a high degree of accuracy, evaluated by absence of valid complaints. Maintains Admission, Discharge and Transfer Logs to ensure complete and accurate information in order to facilitate patient follow-up. Actively participates in hospital-wide performance improvement activities and projects, as directed.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High School education or equivalent GED preferred. Medical terminology preferred.
Licensure:
N/A Experience:
3 years minimum, Unit Secretary experience.
Other Skills:
Effective communication and interpersonal skills and ability to speak concisely to patients, physicians and care team members. Demonstrates an attitude of co-operation and professionalism. Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Strong analytical thinking and the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently. Excellent customer service skills. Able to work in, manage and deal with stressful situations.
PAY / BENEFITS
