JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Medical Receptionist is a member of the patient care team and the primary point of patient contact, responsible for positive patient relations, proper telephone communication, patient registration and checkout, medical records tracking, as well as payment and co-payment collection. Performs routine duties associated with the collection and maintenance of current patient demographics and insurance information.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
 Manages the front desk reception area including check in/checking out patients.  Collects co-payments/Posts Co-pays on Cash log for billing  Provides general directions and information to all callers, visitors and provides assistance as needed.  Assists patients with questions regarding accounts.  Makes follow up appointments as needed and takes care of medical record requests and invoices.  Responsible for patient flow in the reception area/Answer phones/Service Center faxes  Responsible for keeping reception area clean and supplied with necessary forms.  Assist with calling and confirming patient appointments if needed to ensure schedule is kept accurate for providers.  Other duties as assigned by Practice Manager.  Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills:
  • Positive, professional demeanor is projected through verbal and non-verbal communications. o Information for patients and staff is delivered in a manner that is supportive, timely and understandable.
  • Interpersonal conflicts are resolved using appropriate methods and organizational resources. o Diverse perspectives are acknowledged; language and behaviors are modeled that build inclusiveness in the work environment.
  • Ideas and suggestions are clearly communicated.
  • Clarification of communication is requested when appropriate. 
  • Serves, manages and supports internal and external patients and staff.
  • Privacy is maintained at all times for patient and employee information.
  • Actions are initiated to meet or exceed customer/co-workers expectations in delivering service by implementing the "I Make the Difference" philosophy (Ownership begins with me; Greet patients by making eye contact and smiling; Provide positive, professional and prompt responses, e.g. helping visitors find their way; Close every interaction with - Is there anything else I can do for you?).
  • Appropriate resources throughout the Organization are used consistently to meet patient needs.
o Relationships with staff in other work areas are fostered to meet internal and external patient needs.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
 Excellent customer service.  Computer literate.  Ability to effectively present information to patients, physician, and employees. 
Bilingual:
English/Spanish preferred  High school diploma or general education degree (GED).  2-3 years previous experience in a medical office environment preferred.  Ability to multi-task in a high volume clinic/
