Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Front Desk/Medical Records Specialist to join our Outpatient Surgery Center team, Monday thru Friday 830am to 5pm. This vital role combines front office administrative support with comprehensive medical records management, ensuring smooth surgery operations and accurate patient documentation. The ideal candidate will be energetic, organized, and possess a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding, and health information systems. Your positive attitude and excellent communication skills will help create a welcoming environment for patients and staff alike. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-quality patient care while honing your skills in an outpatient surgery setting. Responsibilities Greet patients warmly upon arrival, verify insurance coverage, and assist with intake procedures to ensure a seamless check-in process Manage appointment scheduling using EMR (Electronic Medical Record) maintaining efficient surgery flow Answer multi-line phone systems professionally, providing exceptional patient service and directing calls appropriately Review and update medical records accurately, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintaining confidentiality at all times Verify insurance benefits, including Medicare and other third-party payers, and facilitate insurance claims submission and follow-up for collections Assist with medical billing processes by coding procedures using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/10 (International Classification of Diseases), and ICD coding standards Maintain organized filing systems for paper and electronic health records (EHR systems), including HST or similar platforms, ensuring easy retrieval of information Support documentation review for accuracy and completeness Qualifications Proven experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment with strong clerical and administrative skills Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, HST or similar platforms Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding standards, and insurance verification processes Ability to handle sensitive patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations with discretion and professionalism Excellent phone etiquette combined with strong organizational skills and attention to detail Bilingual abilities are highly preferred to serve diverse patient populations effectively Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) along with typing skills including 10-key data entry for efficient documentation Join our team where your dedication makes a real difference!
