Medical Front Desk Receptionist - PRN Reports to:
Business Manager Position Summary:
The front desk receptionist performs a variety of tasks at MedCare in as much as it is the first contact via telephone by the prospective patient with the clinic. Essential duties include providing excellent customer/patient services via phone and in person; referring callers to the appropriate departments; making appointments for patients according to established MedCare protocols; assisting patients/clients with forms. The position is considered a crucial link between the patient and the care delivered by clinical and medical staff of MedCare. The incumbent must work collaboratively with all clinical and medical staff in support of direct patient services, exhibiting flexibility and a "can do" attitude. Patient services are the key priority in this position requiring the front desk receptionist to serve as a point of contact with other medical staff, all with the goal of fostering an environment which promotes patient comfort and trust. The position must exercise the utmost discretion, diplomacy and tact in patient/staff interactions. Reception/Phones/Medical Records/Appointment Scheduling When scheduling appointment, carefully screens patients for new address, new patient visit or update registration and inform patient of adequate information that must be presented at time of visit. Answer all triage calls by taking message/or referring to appropriate staff. Welcome and greet patients/clients/visitors to MedCare in a manner that is helpful and friendly. Verify current informational status on patient arrival. Check all insurance for accuracy, make necessary phone calls. Explain office policies to patients as needed. Must exercise utmost diplomacy and tact to provide excellent customer service for patients; practices confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance to MedCare policies and HIPAA requirements. Exercises problem-solving and conflict resolution skills when handling patient complaints; refer patient complaints when necessary to supervisor. Maintain strictest confidentiality. Collect co-pays and account balances. Knowledge of services rendered and medical terminology. Post over the counter payments and process bankcards. Monitor petty cash balance. Reconcile daily activity report, balance day sheet. Follow
HIPAA & OSHA
rules and regulations.
On-Line Certification:
HIPAA, HITECH, & Omnibus Follow Compliance rules and regulation against fraud and abuse. Confirm next day appointments.
Qualifications:
Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills; cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse people groups. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of basic math and modern office procedures, including a 10 key calculator by touch. Word processing, data entry, telephone and computer experience. Willing to work evenings and weekends. High school diploma or equivalent.
Skills:
EPIC EHR
System. Medical Terminology. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Able to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions. Correct grammar, spelling skills, and legible writing. Knowledge of
CPT & ICD-10
coding procedures. Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively. Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing. Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance.
