Helping Hands Wellness Center is a nonprofit, free health clinic providing comprehensive, holistic healthcare services to underserved and uninsured individuals and families in Kalamazoo County. Services are delivered through an integrated model of Medical, Emotional and Nutritional Health, grounded in compassion, dignity, and respect.Job Summary:
The Medical Receptionist is the first point of contact for patients and visitors and plays a critical customer service and administrative role in upholding the clinic's mission to deliver quality healthcare and excellent patient services. The person in this position manages patient check-in‑ and check-out, scheduling, phone calls, greeting all guests with professionalism and compassion, managing front desk operations, coordinating patient appointments, and ensuring smooth communication between clinical staff and administrative teams. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, detail-oriented, and passionate about providing exceptional service with the ability to serve in a dynamic, cross-functional role of reception and Medical Assistant duties as needed.Key Responsibilities:
Greet and welcome patients professionally Manage patient registration and check-in/check-out processes Schedule appointments and maintain efficient patient flow Answer phones and respond to patient inquiries Maintain organized front desk operations Provide information about clinical services and policies Process patient documentation Maintain accurate electronic health records Manage mail, faxes, and front desk communications Support referral and care coordination Assist with special projects and quality improvement initiatives Participate in staff meetings and training Assist with direct patient care duties as needed including rooming patients, obtaining and recording vital signs and reviewing medical histories Assist healthcare providers as needed Administer medications as directed Collect specimens and perform point-of-care testingPosition Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required Medical Assistant certification required Current BLS/CPR certification Minimum 1-3 years' experience in a healthcare setting Experience with electronic health records required Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software Excellent organizational and time management skills Commitment to confidentiality and professionalismPreferred Qualifications:
Associate degree in a healthcare-related field Experience in a free clinic or community health setting Bilingual skills (Spanish preferred) Experience with multi-functional healthcare roles Knowledge of community resources Schedule and Benefits Part-Time, In-person front-desk role in a clinic environment Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 8:30am- 7:00pm Competitive nonprofit wages based on experience and qualifications ($18-22/hour) Paid Time Off, Paid Holidays, Earned Sick Time, Professional training and development opportunities Make a meaningful impact in your community
