YEAR OF MEDICAL SECRETARY EXPERIENCE
The work involves performing clerical and typing duties directly related to medical reports, records and correspondence for the Erie County Sheriff's Department
  • Correctional Health Division.
Position is located at the Erie County Holding Center.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Works in the medical unit of the
Erie County Holding Center:
  • Answer incoming calls;
  • Review reports and other documents for completeness, accuracy; and conformity with established procedures;
  • Indexes and files documents and correspondence;
  • Schedule clinic appointments for patients;
  • Assembles a variety of data from office records for incorporation into various reports and patient files;
  • Assists with payroll records;
  • Submits release of information for medical records from outside medical facilities; Should have good knowledge of medical terminology, medical secretarial procedures and medical office management; good knowledge of the English language; ability to type from a variety of source documents onto medical records, forms, reports and related medical correspondence or documents; clerical aptitude; sound judgment; neatness; tact and courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
: A) Completion of a certificate program at a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university or post high school institution with specialization in a medical secretarial or medical assistant curriculum;
Or:
B) Completion of 30 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college, university or post high school institution with specialization in a medical secretarial or medical assistant curriculum;
Or:
C) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one year of medical office experience which included typing.
NOTE:
Verifiable part—time and/or volunteer experience will be pro—rated toward meeting full—time experience requirements Please note this is a Provisional hire; As a provisional appointee, you must sign-up and take the first examination held for the title of the position in which you are serving. It is your responsibility to monitor civil service exam announcements and sign-up for the exam. Willful failure to compete will result in termination of provisional appointment. Service under provisional appointment does not confer or establish any prior right toward any permanent appointment. To receive a permanent appointment, you must be reachable on the eligible list when it is established. Also, as a provisional employee, you will begin to accrue paid sick leave after six months of continuous service.
