Job Description

Functioning within the Health System's mission, vision, values, policies and procedures, the PCT/Unit Secretary receives patients graciously and efficiently and assists staff as needed. Performs clerical and/or clinical duties and functions as a partner to the Registered Nurse with the goal of providing quality patient care.
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED) is preferred. Additional education in medical terminology and/or clerical skills is preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Current BLS required or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Must prove successful completion of an approved nurse aide training and competency program; OR Actively registered as an STNA in the State of Ohio (preferred); OR As an RN student, have completed 2nd quarter or 1st semester clinicals in a Nursing Associate's Degree or diploma program or be a 2nd year student in a B.S.N program; OR As an LPN student, have completed 2nd quarter or 1st semester clinicals in a Licensed Practical Nurse Training Program.
Experience:
One to three years experience in health care, specific to surgical services, with additional experience as a Patient Care Tech or Unit Secretary is required. Word processing and computer experience required. Experience with obtaining vital signs and EKGs preferred.
Skills:
Must have excellent customer service skills and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships, including the ability to exhibit patience and tact with all constituents including physicians, patients and associates. Must demonstrate the ability to speak clearly and concisely and the ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction. Must demonstrate flexibility with work schedule changes, be cooperative and collaborative, and have the documented ability to work with speed and proficiency while under stress. Must also have basic to proficient office skills in operating a computer and photocopy machine, the ability to write legibly and accurately, the ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems, and skill in maintaining records and recording test results. Additional technical requirements include taking vital signs, knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Should also exhibit the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
