As a fellowship-trained Mohs surgical center, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality care and fostering a respectful, team-centered environment. We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Checkout Receptionist who thrives in a high-paced clinical environment and plays a vital role in ensuring a smooth and positive patient experience. Position Summary The Checkout Receptionist is responsible for finalizing patient visits, confirming follow-up appointments, collecting payments, and accurately verifying insurance benefits — including surgical and procedural eligibility when needed. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, multitasking skills, and strong communication abilities while maintaining professionalism and empathy. Experience with insurance verification, coordination of benefits, and working with surgical authorizations is highly preferred. Key Responsibilities Patient Interaction & Scheduling Check out patients promptly and professionally after appointments. Schedule follow-up visits, surgical procedures, biopsies, treatments, and diagnostic appointments as needed. Confirm upcoming appointments and ensure proper documentation is completed. Provide patients with clear instructions, estimates, and expectations regarding next steps in care. Insurance & Financial Responsibilities Verify patient benefits prior to or at the time of checkout. Confirm coverage for dermatologic procedures — including Mohs surgery, excisions, biopsies, laser treatments, and cosmetic services (if applicable). Communicate deductibles, co-insurance, pre-authorizations, and out-of-pocket estimates clearly. Collect and process patient payments (copays, deposits, balances, and cosmetic fees). Work closely with insurance companies to clarify coverage details and obtain required information. Administrative & Coordination Duties Maintain accurate patient records in the EMR system (experience with EMR/EHR preferred). Collaborate with clinical staff, medical billers, and schedulers to ensure seamless patient flow. Follow office policies, confidentiality requirements, HIPAA regulations, and financial protocols.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced medical environment. Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and patient-centered mindset.
Preferred:
1+ year experience in a medical or dermatology practice. Experience verifying insurance benefits (commercial plans, Medicare, Medicaid, VA, Tricare). Knowledge of procedural and surgical terminology. Familiarity with
CPT, ICD-10
terminology, and referrals/authorizations.
