Job Description
Front Desk Medical Receptionist Position Summary The Front Desk Medical Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing exceptional customer service while ensuring efficient front office operations. This role plays an important part in creating a positive patient experience and supporting the smooth operation of the practice. The position is responsible for patient check-in and check-out, insurance verification, payment collection, appointment scheduling, and administrative support. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, professional, and able to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Key Responsibilities Greet patients and visitors in a friendly, professional manner. Perform patient check-in and check-out processes accurately and efficiently. Verify patient demographics, insurance coverage, and eligibility to support accurate registration and billing. Collect co-pays, deductibles, balances, and other patient payments. Process patient registration forms and maintain accurate electronic medical records. Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments. Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, including faxes, mail, and electronic communications. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations. Assist with obtaining referrals, authorizations, and insurance documentation as needed. Coordinate with clinical staff to ensure smooth patient flow throughout the office. Monitor and reconcile daily payment collections and front desk documentation. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming reception area. Complete additional administrative duties, special projects, and side tasks as assigned by management to support office operations. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous medical office, healthcare reception, or customer service experience preferred but not required. Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, and electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a busy environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard office equipment. Ability to remain calm, professional, and compassionate when assisting patients in challenging or stressful situations. Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Ability to use computers, telephones, and office equipment regularly. Work Environment This position operates in a medical office setting and requires frequent interaction with patients, providers, and staff. The employee must maintain a professional, welcoming demeanor while providing excellent service to patients and visitors.
