Schedule:
Full-time, primarily Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM•3:00 PM (most weekdays; occasional flexibility or weekends may be required based on facility needs) Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Medical Scribe / Rehabilitation Assistant to join our interdisciplinary team in an acute inpatient rehabilitation hospital. In this role, you will provide essential support to physicians, physiatrists, and other providers by accurately documenting patient care in real time while assisting with the coordination of rehabilitation services. You will work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment focused on helping patients recover from strokes, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, major surgeries, trauma, and other complex conditions. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in healthcare careers, particularly those pursuing medicine, nursing, therapy, or healthcare administration. Key Responsibilities Accompany physicians and providers during morning rounds, patient evaluations, and interdisciplinary team meetings. Accurately document patient history, physical examinations, daily progress notes, assessments, treatment plans, and discharge summaries in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) in real time. Transcribe provider orders for medications, therapies (PT/OT/SLP), diagnostic tests, consultations, and equipment. Prepare patient charts, update problem lists, and ensure documentation meets regulatory, billing, and quality standards (including IRF-PAI requirements). Assist with care coordination tasks such as scheduling follow-up appointments, obtaining records from referring hospitals, and communicating with therapy teams, case managers, and nursing staff. Help maintain accurate patient census, admission, and discharge documentation. Support providers with administrative tasks, including generating reports, letters of medical necessity, and discharge summaries. Observe and report any changes in patient condition or urgent needs to the appropriate clinical staff. Maintain strict patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA, CMS, and Joint Commission standards. Perform other duties as assigned to support efficient unit operations.
Qualifications & Requirements Required:
High school diploma or GED. Strong computer skills and typing proficiency (minimum 50-60 WPM recommended). Excellent command of medical terminology. Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and listening skills. Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment. Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal/communication skills. Reliable transportation and ability to work the scheduled 7:00 AM•3:00 PM shift.
Preferred:
Previous experience as a medical scribe, CNA, MA, or in a healthcare/rehabilitation setting. Familiarity with EHR systems (especially Epic, Cerner, or Meditech). Knowledge of rehabilitation medicine, physical medicine & rehabilitation (PM&R), or acute care hospital workflows. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a health-related field. Certified Medical Scribe Specialist (CMSS) or similar certification.
Physical & Other Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally. Background check and drug screening required. Current BLS/CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
Pay:
$15.00•$25.00 per hour
