- Full-time Position Summary The Ophthalmic Scribe is responsible for accurately documenting patient encounters, medical histories, examination findings, diagnoses, treatment plans, and physician instructions within the electronic medical record.
The scribe works alongside ophthalmologists and optometrists to improve clinical efficiency, support quality patient care, and allow providers to focus on direct patient interaction. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior experience in ophthalmology, healthcare, medical assisting, or medical scribing preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology and ophthalmic terminology preferred. Experience with EMR systems preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements. Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Accompany providers during patient examinations and procedures. Accurately document patient history, examination findings, assessments, and treatment plans. Record physician orders, instructions, and recommendations in the EMR. Assist with patient flow and ensure documentation is completed in real time. Prepare prescriptions, referrals, testing orders, and follow-up instructions for provider review. Support quality reporting, coding accuracy, and chart completion requirements. Communicate effectively with providers, technicians, and front office staff. Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all patient interactions. Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to multitask and prioritize competing responsibilities. Proficiency with computers and electronic medical records. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Commitment to exceptional patient service. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone. Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing and documentation. Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds occasionally. Adequate visual acuity to review and document clinical information.
