JOB SUMMARY
The MedTech will assist residents to self-administer their medications, as well as assist and supervise with other activities of daily living (ADL's). The position will provide supervision and training to caregivers in the provision of personal services to the Residents.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist residents with self-administration of medications following company standards, and the guidelines set forth by Department of Social Services, Title 22 regulations. Maintain accurate and complete medication documentation for each resident on medication services. Report and document medication problems, refusals and missed medications. Count controlled substances at the beginning and end of each shift. Maintain proper security, storage, and destruction of medications with accurate and complete documentation for each. Work with a number of different pharmacies to ensure resident prescriptions are filled and delivered in timely manner. Reviews physician orders and lab requests, and follows up with resident as needed. Correspond with physicians to ensure that up to date and accurate medications are on hand for residents. Chart any medication changes by physicians, keeping accurate chart notes. Communicate with family members to ensure residents' medications are delivered and kept stocked in a timely manner. Notifies physicians and family members of condition changes or medical problems. Oversees monthly weights of residents, ensuring that every resident is weighed, weights are charged, and significant changes are brought to the attention of a supervisor. Assist in the collection of urine samples for resident testing. Monitors and supervises hydration and nutritional program for residents. Maintains all supplies needed in the medication program. Responds to resident and/or family telephone inquires. Works with Transportation department to ensure residents are taken to doctor appointments. Is proactive in obtaining medical care and treatment for residents with medical needs, working to minimize emergency 911 calls as much as possible. Work with various Hospice agencies to ensure residents on Hospice care are kept comfortable and the terms of their care plan are carried out. Exercise proper use of equipment, and utilize supplies and other company resources in a reasonable and cost-effective way. Attend and participate in training sessions and in-service meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age Current and valid State of California CPR certification. Must have First Aid Certification Knowledge of State of California requirements set forth in Title 22 Knowledge and thorough understanding of Gerontology, Dementia and Alzheimer's. Knowledge and ability to assist residents with medications. Ability to maintain resident confidentiality. Knowledge and understanding of Gerontology, Dementia and Alzheimer's disease Enjoy working with senior citizens Ability to lead, direct and work well with others Excellent time management and organizational skills Knowledge and ability to oversee medication program. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including ability to send emails, generate letters and other correspondence, work with spreadsheets; Also able to use other various office machinery, including a fax machine and copy machine. Knowledge of resident rights and the ability to respond to each resident with empathy and respect. Ability to communicate in English clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other departments, resident and their family members, doctors and other outside professionals that provide service to the residents. Ability to respond effectively in an emergency or crisis situation
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the ability to bend, squat, stoop, kneel, push, pull, sit and stand on feet for extended periods of time, as well as the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
