Medication Technician Reports To:
Administrator Minimum Qualifications:
Be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Possesses clear verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual is a plus. Have at least one (1) year experience in medication position. Shall have a high school diploma or equivalent. Able to read, write, understand and communicate in English at a minimum of an 8th grade proficiency. Able to follow written and verbal directions and apply practical problem solving skills if needed. Familiar with preparing and following physician, nurse, pharmacist and other medical professional directions. Posse's sufficient computer skills to be able to print documents and enter information into resident records. Positive and energetic attitude. Professional in appearance and conduct. Be of good character and a continuing reputation of personal integrity. Be in good health, and physically and mentally capable of performing assigned tasks. Good physical health shall be verified by a health screening performed by a physician not more than six (6) months prior to or seven (7) days after employment. Demonstrated freedom from pulmonary tuberculosis within seven (7) days of employment and annually thereafter. Has current first aid card upon hire and maintains current status throughout employment. Must be criminally cleared by DOJ and FBI via the Live-Scan process prior to employment and be able to pass drug testing. Must have dependable transportation and able to work varying hours as needed.
General Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Works under the direction of the Administrator, LVN and Lead Medication Technician to maintain an efficient and regulatory compliant medication program as well as accurate and current records related to medications. 2. Maintain a clean and orderly medication room. 3. Maintain current and accurate resident charts. 4. Check regularly for expired medications. 5. Set up and distribute medications for residents per physician's orders. 6. Keep highly detailed and accurate medication records. 7. Check medications in during monthly cycle. 8. Assist residents with self-administration of medications. 9. Order medications as needed per facility policy and procedure. 10. Supervise caregivers with medication and first aid. 11. Participate in assessment and re-assement of resident needs. 12. Coordinate with LVN and Lead Medication Technician to ensure proper and timely administration of medication. 13. Monitor and record physical, mental, and emotional changes observed in residents. 14. Assist in scheduling medical appointments and maintain medical appointment calendar. 15. Report regularly to Administrator to provide status reports and engage in strategic planning. 16. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with physicians, other medical professionals, and family members. 17. Call appropriate authorities during emergency situations. 18. Responsible for maintaining, ordering and inventorying medication room supplies and other medical devices required by the residents and facility at large. 19. Assist with emergency resident evacuation as needed. 20. Other tasks assigned by administrator. 21. May be required to fill in other duties as required by facility operation.
Physical Requirements:
In a typical day, the Medication Technician Assistant will routinely be required to stoop, carry, bend, squat, kneel, crouch, climb, grip, reach, drive, push and pull. The Medication Technician Assistant will also be required to lift overhead, lift to waist high and to lift to floor level. The Medication Technician Assistant will also be required to use fine motor and manual dexterity skills in writing, typing, and grasping. The Medication Technician Assistant will also be required to use a phone, standard office equipment including a computer and operate vehicles.
