Weekdays, weekends, holidays, early mornings, evenings, and peak boarding seasons as required. 8/10/12 hour shifts Position Summary The Kennel Technician is responsible for the direct care, safety, cleanliness, medication administration, and supervision of all dogs and cats in the facility. This is a fast-paced, physically demanding position that requires attention to detail, urgency, reliability, and strict sanitation standards. This job is not just playing with animals. Kennel Technicians are responsible for preventing accidents, following procedures exactly, maintaining a clean facility, administering medications correctly when assigned, and ensuring every pet is cared for safely. Essential Duties/Animal Care Feed pets according to written instructions. Provide fresh water at all times. Walk, potty, and rotate dogs safely. Monitor pets for illness, injury, stress, abnormal stool, vomiting, coughing, limping, behavior changes, or refusal to eat. Report concerns immediately to management. Handle all pets safely and appropriately. Keep dogs leashed and secured at all times when moving through the facility. Follow all boarding, daycare, isolation, feeding, medication, and cleaning procedures exactly. Medication Administration Administer medications only as instructed and documented. Follow the pet's written medication instructions exactly, including medication name, dosage, route, frequency, and timing. Verify the correct pet, correct medication, correct dose, correct time, and correct method before giving any medication. Document all medications immediately after administration. Report missed, refused, vomited, dropped, spilled, or questionable medications to management immediately. Never guess on medication instructions. Never give medication that is not clearly labeled or documented. Never change a medication schedule without manager approval. Monitor pets after medication for side effects, reactions, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or abnormal behavior. Communicate any concerns, mistakes, or owner-provided medication issues immediately. Cleaning and Sanitation Clean kennels, suites, crates, cat areas, yards, play areas, drains, bowls, buckets, bedding, and equipment. Remove feces, urine, hair, food, trash, and debris immediately. Use proper cleaning products and dilution procedures. Scrub, rinse, disinfect, soak, dry, and reset areas as instructed. Keep the facility odor-free, organized, and sanitary. Complete laundry, dishes, trash, restocking, and closing duties. Maintain high sanitation standards even during busy periods. Safety and Supervision Monitor dogs during group play, rotations, potty breaks, and handling. Prevent fence fighting, unsafe play, escapes, injuries, and avoidable incidents. Follow gate, leash, latch, and room security procedures every time. Never leave animals unattended in unsafe situations. Communicate immediately if a pet is acting abnormally or if a mistake occurs. Complete incident reports when required. Team Responsibilities Follow directions from managers and leads. Complete assigned task lists fully and accurately. Work at a steady pace without cutting corners. Communicate clearly with team members. Assist other departments when needed. Maintain a professional attitude. Stay off personal phones unless approved by management. Arrive on time and be ready to work. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to: Stand, walk, bend, squat, lift, scrub, mop, hose, and move quickly for long periods. Work indoors and outdoors in heat, humidity, rain, cold, and noisy environments. Lift up to 50 pounds. Handle dogs of all sizes and temperaments. Perform heavy cleaning and sanitation daily. Tolerate barking, strong odors, pet waste, hair, cleaning chemicals, and physically demanding conditions. Required Qualifications Reliable transportation and consistent attendance. Prioritize animal care over convenience. Disqualifying Behaviors The following are not acceptable: Leaving animals without water. Leaving feces, urine, dirty bowls, or unsanitary areas behind. Dogs off leash or unsecured. Failing to latch gates, kennels, or doors. Missing, guessing, or incorrectly administering medications. Failing to document medications. Giving medication without clear written instructions. Ignoring pet illness, injury, medication reaction, or abnormal behavior. Excessive phone use. Poor attendance or repeated lateness. Cutting corners on cleaning. Failing to follow procedures. Creating unnecessary drama or disrupting the team. Summary This position requires hard work, consistency, and accountability. The safety and care of the animals come first. Kennel Technicians must be dependable, detail-oriented, willing to clean thoroughly, and capable of administering medications accurately when assigned.
