Job Description

Position Summary:
The Medication Technician is responsible for administering medications and treatments to residents in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, and North Carolina regulations. The Med Tech monitors residents for medication effectiveness and adverse reactions, maintains accurate documentation, and assists with resident care as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Medication Administration Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to physician orders and facility procedures. Follow the "rights" of medication administration (right resident, medication, dose, route, time, and documentation). Observe residents for side effects, adverse reactions, and changes in condition. Report medication concerns and resident condition changes to supervisors, nurses, physicians, or other appropriate personnel. Assist residents with self-administration of medications when permitted by facility policy. Documentation Accurately complete Medication Administration Records (MARs). Document medication refusals, omissions, errors, and resident responses. Maintain confidentiality of resident health information. Medication Management Receive, store, secure, and account for medications according to facility policies. Monitor medication supplies and notify appropriate personnel when refills are needed. Assist with medication inventories and controlled substance counts. Resident Care Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) as assigned. Provide support with mobility, meals, hygiene, and other personal care tasks. Promote resident dignity, independence, and safety. Safety and Compliance Follow infection control procedures and standard precautions. Maintain a clean and organized medication room/cart. Comply with North Carolina adult care home regulations and facility policies. Participate in required continuing education and in-service training. North Carolina requires annual medication-related continuing education for medication aides and supervisors. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Successful completion of North Carolina Adult Care Home Medication Aide training and competency requirements. Listed/qualified to perform medication aide duties in accordance with North Carolina requirements. Ability to read physician orders, medication labels, and MARs accurately. Strong organizational, communication, and observation skills. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and assist residents as needed. Ability to push medication carts and perform repetitive documentation tasks. Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
