The position and responsibilities you are assuming is the Medication Technician for our community and assist with caregiving. The Medication Technician administers or assists residents to self administer medications and treatments; measures vital signs and weight; and performs other health services tasks. You also communicate with physicians, implement physician orders, and report and document pertinent information. You are also to adhere closely to home health, hospice, and emergency protocols. You will act as the facility supervisor when management staff not present and support with cares/ADLS for residents. You will supervise resident assistants to assure daily completion of their duties. responsibilities Administers or assists residents to self administer medications, including oral; sublingual; buccal; topical eye; topical ear; topical nasal; inhaler; nebulizer; topical vaginal; topical rectal; subcutaneous injections (RN delegated task for Medication Technicians); and intramuscular injections (LPNs only) (B-12 only in Montana). Administers or assists residents to self administer treatments (if complex, RN delegated task for Medication Assistants). Measures vital signs and weight. Collects, stores, and assures transport of specimens for laboratory studies. Adheres to specified medication room systems (e.g. completing controlled substances count at end of each shift and documentation procedures). Communicates with physicians, via fax, visit form and telephone. Implements physician orders. Documents pertinent information in resident charts and in other specified locations (e.g., alert charting and incident reports). Reads Communication Log and Shift Report at beginning of each shift, enters pertinent information in Communication Log and Shift Report by end of each shift. Assists in development and revision of Service Plans by informing supervisor of current resident needs and preferences as well as successful service approaches. Observes for and reports resident problems and reports such problems to supervisor. Supports residents with completions of activities of daily living as indicated in their service plans. Answer pages and call lights immediately. Positively supports residents with emotional and behavioral issues. Supports resident activity participation by assisting residents to/from activities, encouraging participation, and leading activities when asked. Assists in development and revision of Service Plans by informing supervisor of current resident needs and preferences as well as successful service approaches. Observes for and reports resident concerns or problems and reports such problems to supervisor. Reads Communication Log and Shift Report at beginning of each shift, enters pertinent information in Communication Log and Shift Report by end of each shift. Physical Demands and Requirements Maintain ability to lift 50 pounds; to stand or walk throughout the vast majority of the work day; and to frequently push, pull, bend, twist, and reach Must have sufficient manual dexterity to work with the fingers and to reach/handle items. Must also be able to walk throughout campus on frequent basis for extended periods of time. (Up to five hours) Involves light to heavy physical activity performing non-strenuous and strenuous daily activities.
