DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE
Medication Technician SUMMARY To administer medications to all residents as ordered by the physician.
SUPERVISOR
Administrator or Director of Wellness
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Accurately and safely prepare and administer medications per Federal /State regulations and by following established facility policies and procedures. Ensure that all medications administered are properly labeled and coincide with Physician order. Follow facility procedures in regards to medication administration documentation. Follow the facility policies and procedures regarding the destruction of medications. Promptly notify the Administrator or Director of Wellness of any errors or reaction to medication by residents. Complete Medication Error Report. Ensure that no medication is administered without a written, signed, dated order from a licensed physician. Follow established guidelines concerning storage of medications Accurately measure, record, and report the vital signs of residents. Assist in providing personal care to residents including but not limited to: bathing, oral hygiene, shaving, grooming, dressing, nutritional needs, toileting, transferring residents and ambulating. 11. Respond to all bells and all resident requests regardless of assignment. 12. Report signs of poor intake to maintain proper nutrition and hydration levels. 13. Collect urine and stool specimens. 14. Promptly report any changes in resident's condition. 15. Accurately chart on resident record to include acute charting, etc. 16. Follow standard precautions and infection control practices as per policy. 17. Count all narcotics with off-going shift per facility policy. 18. Attend all required education training programs monthly. 19. Accountable for information contained in employee handbook. 20. Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner and perform other duties as requested by Administrator or clinical care coordinator. 21. Participate in training of new personnel. 22. Exhibit knowledge of and effectively follow the emergency and disaster plans. 23. Perform basic emergency care procedures, first aid, CPR and ABD Thrusts if required and certified to do so.
REQUIREMENTS
Pocess a High School Diploma or GED and / or C.N.A. Certificate. Complete DPW testing prior to providing direct care. Pocess Medication Technician Certificate. Requires frequent standing, walking, turning, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching and lifting to assist residents. Must be able to lift fifty pounds. Ability to operate office equipment. Alert and attentive to detail. Ability to remember names and places. Able to plan own work activities and manage multiple tasks. Residents always come first. Must present a neat, clean, professional appearance and demonstrate a positive, cheerful attitude towards associates and residents. Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with coworkers, residents, families and visitors. Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, facility operations and personnel. I have read and understand the Medication Technician Position Description. I am able to perform the identified responsibilities. I understand the first 90 days of employment are probationary.
