Job Description

Summary:
Coordinates under the supervision of a pharmacist medication order entry with drug distribution and IV admixture non-hazardous and hazardous drug preparation activities (i.e. chemotherapy) such that medications are administered to patients in a safe and timely manner. Processes medication orders into Pharmacy system database. Enters all medication orders accurately. Medication orders are triaged and processed for the pharmacist within established time frames for stat, now, and routine orders. Coordinates drug distribution activities. IV and oral medications are available for patient administration when needed. Medications and supplies are maintained at established par levels. Coordinates medication delivery and storage. Medications are delivered to the correct floor location based on priority. Medication areas and automated cabinets are routinely checked for out of date drugs and proper storage conditions. Maintains patient medication database. Identifies and resolves routine MAR reconciliations in a timely manner. Collects and enters patient allergy information, height, weight, patient conditions, and home medication history. Admixes parenteral medications using appropriate technique and equipment. Parenteral doses are prepared free of microbial contaminants. Maintains IV facility, airflow hoods, and compounders according to established policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
One year certification from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Both active pharmacy technician certification and registered pharmacy technician licensure in Tennessee required.
