Medication Technician Job Classification:
Medication Technician Purpose Provide medication administration to resident's as ordered by their prescribing provider and in accordance with the regulations outlined by the state regulatory agencies. Requirements Must meet the requirements of the Supervisor-In-Charge, as well as, meet the training and testing requirements as outlined by the state regulatory guidelines. Also, must complete required continuing education units annually. Walking and hearing is required 75% or more per shift. Far vision, near vision, low to medium levels of lifting, low levels of carrying and pushing/pulling, low to medium levels of handling and fingering are required about 50% per shift. Standing, talking, medium levels of carrying, pushing/pulling is required about 25% per shift. Sitting, crouching, climbing (ascending or descending), bending/twisting, reaching, very high levels of lifting, high to very high levels of carrying, very high levels of pushing/pulling is required about 10% per shift. Stooping, running grappling, balancing, feeling, high levels of lifting, pushing/pulling, fingering is present only in unusual situations. The required lift for this job classification is 50 lbs. Description 1. Assume all written and delegated assignments of the Administrator and/or Resident Care Coordinator. 2. Provide direction and assignments to other patient care assistants. 3. Prepare resident transfer forms and documents as required for hospital or other service providers. 4. Complete accident/incidents reports as is necessary. 5. Ensure that there is staff coverage on the hall at all times, and that all employees receive adequate breaks on their shift. 6. Discipline, counsel, and document violations of policies and procedures by staff. 7. Enforce all facility rules and regulations for staff and residents, and assist in making sure that resident rights are acknowledged by all staff members. 8. Handle employee grievances with tact, courtesy, and consideration. 9. Perform medication administration in a timely and structured manner, making sure to handle all medications properly. 10. Perform narcotic counts per facility policy and in accordance with state regulations. 11. Respect the resident's right to privacy and autonomy during med passes. 12. Supervise those residents that are approved for self-administration of medications and assure proper administration techniques. 13. Notify Resident Care Coordinator and/or Administrator of significant changes in residents and document these changes as is appropriate. 14. Seek treatment for residents experiencing acute episodes of an illness or those in need of emergency services. 15. Communicate with Resident Care Coordinator, Administrator, and/or the facility pharmacy to ensure that all resident medications are available and appropriate for administration. 16. Dispose of discontinued or refused medications properly and document the disposal. 17. Maintain a current certification, which means obtaining the required annual CEUs.Similar remote jobs
