Job Description
The Medication Technician (Med Tech) is responsible for administering routine medications to residents in a skilled nursing facility under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with Wisconsin state regulations, facility policies, and physician orders. The Med Tech supports resident safety, comfort, and quality of care while maintaining accurate documentation and communication with the nursing team. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Administer oral, topical, ophthalmic, otic, and inhaled medications as permitted by Wisconsin regulations Accurately document medication administration in the electronic or paper MAR Observe residents for medication side effects or adverse reactions and promptly report concerns to the licensed nurse Assist with medication storage, labeling, and inventory per facility policy Maintain resident confidentiality and comply with HIPAA standards Communicate effectively with nurses, residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members Support resident dignity, independence, and quality of life Follow infection control, safety, and emergency procedures Assist with other resident care tasks as assigned within CNA and Med Tech scope of practice Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong attention to detail and accuracy Compassionate, resident-centered approach to care Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Ability to work independently and as part of a team Basic computer skills for electronic charting Strong time management skills in a fast-paced environment Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Active Wisconsin Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in good standing (required) Successful completion of a Wisconsin-approved Medication Technician/Medication Aide training program Current Medication Technician certification in good standing (Wisconsin) CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire) Previous experience in a SNF or long-term care setting preferred Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
