Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to provide support, skills, and recovery-focused guidance to adults receiving services in our outpatient urgent care setting. This position operates within a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) model, utilizing lived experience to support individuals navigating substance use and behavioral health challenges. In this role, you will help consumers build recovery skills, access needed services, and navigate treatment and community support systems through a person-centered, hope-focused approach.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery required Must meet Alabama Department of Mental Health (DMH) requirements for Peer Support services Strong communication, advocacy, and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively with adults experiencing behavioral health and substance use challenges Knowledge of recovery principles, community resources, and person-centered support preferred
Responsibilities:
Provide peer support, skill-building, and recovery-focused guidance to adults receiving services in the outpatient urgent care setting Utilize lived experience to assist consumers in navigating substance use and behavioral health recovery challenges Support individuals in developing coping skills, recovery goals, self-advocacy, and connections to ongoing treatment and community resources Collaborate with community agencies, providers, and multidisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated support within the CCBHC care model Offer education, encouragement, and consultation to consumers regarding recovery resources and available support services Advocate for consumer needs within treatment settings, community systems, and support networks Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in compliance with agency standards and CCBHC requirements Promote hope, resilience, engagement, and person-centered recovery for individuals receiving care ALL candidates must be able to type and have basic computer skills, possess a valid driver's license, eligibility for coverage under center liability insurance and individually held vehicle liability insurance with a clear background check.
