Job Description

United Cerebral Palsy of Mobile is searching for a Direct Service Professional to work one-on-one for an adult client with disabilities in our Adult Day Habitation Program. 4 days per week Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 3:00 p.m. Position Summary The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides individualized 1:1 support and supervision for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities who demonstrate behavioral challenges. Services are delivered in accordance with Alabama Department of Mental Health standards, agency policies, behavior support plans, and person-centered practices to ensure the health, safety, dignity, and community inclusion of the individual served. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide continuous 1:1 supervision and support based on the individual's behavioral and safety needs. Implement individualized behavior support plans and crisis intervention strategies as trained and approved. Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, grooming, dressing, toileting, eating, and mobility as needed. Monitor and document behaviors, incidents, progress notes, and interventions accurately and timely according to ADMH guidelines. Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment. Support community integration, social skills development, and recreational participation. Administer or assist with medications according to agency policy and certification requirements, if applicable. Communicate effectively with supervisors, nurses, behavior analysts, guardians, and interdisciplinary team members. Report incidents, injuries, abuse, neglect, exploitation, or significant behavioral changes immediately according to mandatory reporting requirements. Attend and complete all required ADMH and agency trainings. Use approved de-escalation and non-physical intervention techniques. Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and agency policies. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and behavioral challenges preferred. Must pass background checks required by ADMH and state regulations. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record preferred. Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain. Ability to physically assist individuals when necessary. Ability to work a flexible schedule with weekly hours varying between three to four days based on operational needs and individual circumstances. • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, email communication, and data management, are essential for efficiently performing daily tasks. • This position requires successful completion of CPI training, including the ability to safely lift to 50 pounds as part of physical intervention techniques. Possible exposure to aggressive or self-injurious behaviors. Community-based and residential work environments. Must have reliable transportation.
EOE Pay:
$14.40 - $14.41 per hour
