Description:

The Azusa Pacific University Department of Clinical Psychology invites applications for a term-tenure track position in our APA-accredited PsyD Program in Clinical Psychology beginning in August of 2025. The position is open to applicants with expertise/experience and capacity to teach in our sequence of courses on research design and methodology; psychological assessment (including neuropsychological assessment), psychobiology, cognitive and affective bases of behavior. As a faith-based program in Southern California with an emphasis in diversity and social justice, we are especially interested in recruiting faculty of color and faculty who are underrepresented in the psychology workforce. The successful applicant must demonstrate commitment to doctoral teaching, scholarship and research, and dissertation research mentoring. A track record of publication is preferred as is a developed plan to maintain and expand scholarship. Candidates at the Full or Associate Professor Rank are expected to have well developed research agendas, whereas those at the Assistant Professor rank should have ideas about future research that would contribute to the department and university. In addition to teaching and scholarship, candidates who are committed to service within the institution, profession and community are preferred. As a faith-based program committed to social justice and diversity, we are particularly interested in candidates with a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education and mentoring students from underrepresented backgrounds. The Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology at Azusa Pacific University (APU PsyD) prepares students for the practice of health service psychology. The program adheres to a practitioner-scholar model of training and requires the completion of a rigorous, graded sequence of courses in the science and practice of psychology; three years of clinical training and successful demonstration of clinical ability on a Clinical Competency Examination; completion of a clinical dissertation; and completion of a doctoral internship. The program has three areas of special emphasis: systems thinking, diversity and justice, and the integration of faith/spirituality into practice. The first cohort of students was admitted in 1996. The program received initial accreditation by the American Psychological Association (APA) Commission on Accreditation on November 1, 2000 and has been reaccredited each time since then. The Department of Clinical Psychology has eight core faculty members and other faculty within other departments at APU who teach in the APU PsyD program. The APU PsyD program is situated in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences (CEBS), a multidisciplinary college with departments in undergraduate and graduate education (including school counseling and school psychology), undergraduate psychology, undergraduate and graduate social work, counseling psychology and marriage and family therapy. In addition, the Dept of Clinical Psychology houses a training clinic, the APU Community Counseling Center (CCC). The CCC is a community counseling center serving the Azusa and surrounding communities, by offering low-fee services in English and Spanish. Many PsyD students train at the CCC in their 2nd year of the program. Annually, the PsyD program admits 26-30 students in a cohort model. In addition to teaching, full-time core faculty members are expected to mentor students through their dissertation process, pursue their own research agenda, participate in the preparedness and evaluation of the PsyD students through various means including a clinical competency exam, and participate in the review and selection of applicants to the PsyD program. Opportunities exist for global experiences, including clinical and research-based faculty-led and student-staffed trips. The successful applicant must possess either a PhD or PsyD in clinical psychology or a related field from an APA-accredited program with preference towards a psychologist with a valid California license.

Specialization:

Area of specialization in clinical psychology with specialization in research design and methodology; psychological assessment, including neuropsychological assessment; biological bases of behavior; cognitive aspects of behavior; and/or affective bases of behavior.

Excellence in teaching in higher education. A strong Christian commitment. Experience in service to a university. Evidence of scholarly research and publications in the field of psychology are expected.

Workload:

Full-time faculty position. Teaching courses annually, advise students, conduct research, and participate in university service and leadership.

Compensation:

$70,304 to $125,460 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package. Compensation will be based on experience, rank, and qualifications.
