Job Description

Shelter Monitor Graveyard Reports to :
Shelter Manager Purpose :
Sabbath House shelter monitors act as coaches, encouragers, teachers, and safety monitors. The monitor helps participants find their rhythm at Sabbath House, ensures the health and safety of each person, encourages a collaborative environment, and keeps systems going to support the individual's work. This position requires a person to be able to multi-task, maintain patience, treat all guests with dignity, use a trauma-sensitive approach and to guide participants towards self-sufficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Ensure participants are informed with the expectations of the Sabbath House. Oversee safety and security of participants and the shelter. Process emergency referrals from Police, Catalyst, or Pastors. Answer and return phone calls with discretion, professionalism, and maintain confidentiality. Complete all necessary paperwork, data entry, office work, staff reports. Maintain a comprehensive and accurate written record of events that occur during shifts, as well as incident reports. Collect and enter data using the HMIS database. Monitor medication and consumption log. Maintain intake packets and other documents. Conduct periodic room checks and monitor to ensure safety of participants Follow through with all daily assigned tasks. Check inventory of supplies and prepare list for Shelter Manager. Leave copies of necessary forms in Program Director's box: bed chart, supply list, service work schedule, etc. Attend staff meetings de-escalation techniques.
Qualifications :
Strong communication skills: ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing. At least 1 year of clean/sober time. At least 1 year experience working with people in a social service setting Have a valid California Driver's License Must have a High School diploma or GED Commitment to working as a team Ability to delegate tasks in a positive manner Ability to monitor shelter daily tasks and program Not on probation or parole
Skills :
Basic computer knowledge i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. Attentive to details. Critical thinking. Good communication skills. Crisis management. Able to follow through with assigned tasks. Ability to problem-solve.
