Days Employment Type Full Time, Part Time Job Summary Job Summary Mental Health Counselor Professional Duties and Expectations:
The Mental Health Counselor (MHC) is responsible for providing school-based mental health services, which include but are not limited to: conducting clinical assessments; developing treatment plans; providing individual and group counseling; conducting crisis intervention as needed; participating in multi-disciplinary team meetings; maintaining timely and accurate clinical documentation; and performing other professional duties as assigned by the clinical supervisor or administration to support program and student needs. Professional tasks and duties the Mental Health Counselor may expect to engage in:
- Prioritize student referrals and deliver clinical services, including individual and group counseling.
- Provide staff consultation regarding social-emotional and behavioral needs.
- Manage a diverse caseload, providing comprehensive case management and community resource referrals.
- Systematic gathering of student data.
- Develop treatment goals and provide updates on student's progress.
- Handle administrative duties, including data collection, goal setting, and timely clinical documentation through Electronic Health Record systems to bill for services.
- Maintain documentation e.g. counseling notes and logs.
- Provide collateral support with parents and other relevant entities.
- Facilitate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) classroom lessons and psycho-educational presentations for students.
- Crisis intervention and mandated reporting as needed.
- Consult with and participate on School Teams as needed (i.e. Student Study Team, Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports Team, Coordination of Services Team).
- Participate in professional development and special initiatives.
- Provide parent and/or staff training/workshops.

- Has a current Associate or License number in good standing with the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS). This includes passing the BBS law and ethics exam. This position does not require a Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential.
- Commit to a full school calendar year August 10th, 2026 through June 8th, 2027 (185 days, District Calendar) and maintain satisfactory attendance.
- Attend at least weekly 1 hour triadic and 2 hours of group supervision in accordance with California BBS requirements (for pre-licensed Associates).
- Independently fulfill professional duties with limited supervision/shadowing.
