POSITION SUMMARY
The Residential Habilitation Assistant (RHA) provides individualized support to residents in an assisted living facility, helping them achieve optimal levels of independence, physical well-being, and personal growth. The RHA assists with daily living activities (DLAs), offers emotional and behavioral support, and fosters a safe, nurturing, and respectful environment for all residents. The ideal candidate will have a compassionate and patient approach to working with individuals with disabilities or other special needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Assisting with Daily Living Activities (DLAs): Support residents with personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting. Aid with mobility, transfers, and positioning as required. Assist residents with meal preparation, feeding, and ensuring proper hydration. Provide support in maintaining hygiene, cleanliness, and organization within the resident's living space.
Behavioral and Emotional Support:
Offer emotional support to residents, providing companionship and a comforting presence. Monitor and report changes in behavior or emotional state and alert appropriate staff if needed. Implement individual behavior plans as outlined by the habilitation team.
Encouraging Independent Living Skills:
Help residents with goal setting, skill development, and fostering independence in daily routines. Facilitate recreational and social activities that encourage engagement and interaction. Encourage self-sufficiency, promoting residents' participation in household tasks and decision-making
Health and Safety Monitoring:
Ensure that all residents are in a safe, comfortable, and secure environment at all times. Adhere to all safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and resident care plans.
Documentation and Reporting:
Document daily activities, observations, and any changes in resident condition. Communicate effectively with team members and family members about resident progress, concerns, and incidents. Maintain confidentiality of all resident information according to HIPAA guidelines. Collaboration with
Team Members:
Work collaboratively with other care providers, including nurses, social workers, and other staff to ensure residents' needs are met. Participate in team meetings and care planning sessions as required.
Cultural Sensitivity and Respect:
Provide culturally competent care, respecting the dignity, preferences, and values of each resident. Foster an environment of inclusivity, respect, and compassion.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Certification in caregiving or a related field (such as
CNA, HHA
) preferred.
Experience:
Previous experience in a caregiving, residential support, or healthcare role is preferred, particularly in assisted living, group homes, or similar settings.
Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain patient, calm, and empathetic in stressful situations. Knowledge of common medical conditions, disabilities, and best practices for personal care and support. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical stamina to assist with mobility and daily living tasks.
