ABOUT THIS ROLE
This is not a "sit in your office and wait" therapy role.
You are:
A key part of the school's behavioral health team A safe space for students A collaborator with teachers, staff, and families A bridge between mental health and education You will: Provide individual and group therapy Support emotional regulation and behavioral needs Help shape a school culture where students feel seen, safe, and supported
YOUR ROLE IN THE SCHOOL CULTURE
You are not separate from the school—you are part of it.
You:
Partner with teachers to support classroom behavior and emotional needs Collaborate with school counselors, administration, and support staff Contribute to behavioral plans and interventions Show up in hallways, classrooms, and moments—not just sessions Because the goal is not just therapy.
  • It's creating a school environment where mental health is understood and supported daily
A DAY IN THE LIFE
Morning
  • Setting the Tone You arrive at the school. A teacher stops you in the hallway: "Can you check in with one of my students today? Something feels off." You make a note—because you know early support matters. Mid-Morning
  • Student Sessions You meet with a student struggling with emotional regulation.
You:
Help them name what they feel Teach grounding or coping skills Create a plan they can actually use in class This isn't just a session. This is giving a child tools they may carry for life. Midday
  • Collaboration You meet with the behavioral health team.
You:
Share insights (while maintaining confidentiality) Problem-solve challenging behaviors Align on strategies that support the student across environments You are part of the solution—not working in isolation. Afternoon
  • Real-Time Support A student has an emotional outburst.
You:
Step in calmly De-escalate Help them regulate Support staff in understanding what the behavior means Because moments like this matter just as much as sessions. End of Day
  • Documentation & Reflection You:
    Complete clinical notes Track progress Identify students who may need additional support And you reflect:
  • Who needs more support tomorrow?
  • What patterns are emerging?
  • How can I show up better?
WHAT WINNING LOOKS LIKE
(FIRST 90 DAYS) By Day 30: You've built rapport with students and staff You understand the school's culture and needs Students recognize you as a safe space By Day 60: You are actively collaborating with teachers and staff Students are utilizing skills learned in sessions You've contributed to behavioral support strategies By Day 90: You are a trusted member of the school's behavioral health team You've helped improve emotional outcomes for students Your presence is making a measurable difference in the school climate
YOU'RE A GREAT FIT IF YOU
Connect naturally with children and build trust quickly Understand trauma-informed care and emotional development Are flexible and able to respond in real time Communicate effectively with both children and adults Value collaboration and being part of a team Are passionate about early intervention and impact
THIS ROLE IS NOT FOR YOU IF
You prefer strictly structured, predictable sessions only You struggle with flexibility in fast-paced environments You prefer working independently without team collaboration You are uncomfortable being visible and engaged throughout the school
