THE SCHOOL BOARD OF HIGHLANDS COUNTY
POSITION TITLE:
Behavior Specialist
ASSIGNMENT
Behavior Specialist•Student Support Services
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Florida Teaching Certificate covering at least one area in Exceptional Education
Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience in one or more areas of Exceptional Education
A valid Florida Driver's License and personal transportation
Physical Requirements:
Light Work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects
Satisfactory clearance of a criminal history records check and drug screening
ADDITIONAL DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS
1. Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst(BCaBA) preferred.
2. Physical requirements to perform essential functions and tasks which may include; lifting, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping, pulling, and pushing, if required
PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITITES
1. Consistent with district and state curriculum requirements, identify or develop long and short-range plans based on student needs.
2. Conduct district level Functional Behavior Assessments, collect and analyze behavior data, and develop Positive Behavior Intervention Plans.
3. Establish and use behavior management techniques which are appropriate and effective.
4. Assist in enforcement of school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy.
5. Establish and maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures including student records subject to the requirements of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
6. Manage materials and assigned equipment effectively including record keeping other inventory requirements
7. Interpret and use data (including, but not limited to, standardized and other test results)
8. Recognize overt indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate intervention, referral, or reporting actions.
9. Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with other professionals, students, parents and community.
10. Collaborate with students, parents, school staff, and other appropriate persons to assist in meeting student needs.
11. Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
12. To intervene with students whose behavior and/or school progress indicates need for assistance.
13. To consult with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems and effect solutions.
14. To assist educators in completing behavioral assessments and to develop behavioral plans for students who exhibit extreme disruptive or non-compliant behavior.
15. To assist ESE personnel with development of IEP goals for students with disabilities evidencing emotional/behavioral challenges.
16. To maintain records relating to student progress in the areas of attendance, discipline, and academic achievement for those students served.
17. To train support staff in program implementation, data collection and monitor implementation of interventions as warranted.
18. To perform assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
19. To perform assigned tasks with a high standard of quality.
20. To perform other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervising administrator
TERM:
Length of contract and number of hours worked are determined by specific allocation as approved annually during planning-budgeting process
APPRAISAL
Performance will be appraised annually in accordance with School Board policies
PAY GRADE
According to the School Board of Highlands County Instructional Salary Schedule
