Job Description

Riverside Foundation has full-time positions available for Developmental Trainers (DSPs) for our Riverside Community Center. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work directly with adults who have intellectual or developmental disabilities. The successful applicant must be able to pass a criminal background check. Good attendance, a valid Illinois driver's license, and a clean driving record are also required. Job Description:
I.
Purpose:
A. To lead activities designed to maximize active programming. B. To monitor and supervise clients throughout the day, to ensure safety and well-being. II.
Qualifications:
A. Written and verbal communication skills necessary for program implementation and record keeping. B. Completion of facility orientation and training program. C. High School diploma or
G.E.D. III.
Minimum Health Requirements:
A. Physical stamina and energy necessary to provide personal care to residents. B. Ability to run or walk a distance of approximately 25 yards to assist with resident emergencies or for building evacuations. C. Ability to provide physical support to residents if they are unsteady or falling. D. Ability to lift 20 pounds. E. Ability to provide physical management procedures in conjunction with behavior programs as trained and assigned. F. Freedom from communicable disease. IV.
Responsibilities:
A. Lead group/individual activities to maximize active programming. B. Communicate client needs to appropriate contact person at Riverside Foundation Work and Activity Center. C. Monitor and supervise clients throughout the day, to include arrival, departure, breaks, washrooms, lunchtime and van/bus monitoring. Assist in substitution as needed. D. Communicate behavior information regarding clients as necessary. E. Assist at RF with client morning routines and door monitoring as assigned, when on a.m. bus/van duty. F. Implement physical management procedures in conjunction with behavior programs as trained and assigned. G. Assist clients with activities of daily living, i.e., hand-washing, hair grooming, clothing, toileting and personal care needs which may include hands on assistance. H. Assist with bathroom (toilet, floor, walls, partition) clean-up resulting from toileting accidents utilizing infection control procedures. I. Assist with choice group clean-up and organization, i.e., cleaning tables, bulletin boards, organizing choice group materials. J. Assist with sub-contract work on an as-needed basis. K. Responsible to know and assist with emergency evacuations. L. May be acted upon aggressively from clients; i.e., hitting, kicking, slapping, biting, punching, and biting. V. Exposure to
Environmental Conditions:
A. Frequent exposure to vapors from paint fumes (including oil based paints and stains). B. Frequent exposure to cleaning chemicals. C. Occasional exposure to industrial adhesives due to construction/remodeling. D. Occasional exposure to dust due to construction/remodeling. VI.
Documentation:
A. Completion of progress indicators/token sheets as assigned. B. Complete behavior incident reports and behavior checklists as necessary. C. Complete paperwork as required when monitoring client sub-contract work.
