Job Description
Position Summary:
Lake Orion Community Schools is seeking a Regulation Consultant to support the development of inclusive, regulation-responsive systems and practices across the district. This role partners with school teams to address complex student needs, build staff capacity, and design environments that promote student regulation, independence, and access. This position blends behavior analysis expertise with systems leadership and instructional coaching, supporting both individual student problem-solving and district-wide practices. This position reflects Lake Orion's commitment to moving beyond reactive approaches toward proactive, inclusive systems that support all learners. The Regulation Consultant plays a key role in helping teams rethink how environments, instruction, and adult practices support student success.Core Responsibilities:
Support the development and refinement of MTSS behavioral and regulation systems, including analysis of discipline, removal, and behavior data to inform decision-making Co-develop and implement a district process for requesting and delivering consultation support for complex student needs Partner with building leaders to design regulation-supportive environments, systems, and practices Provide consultation to teams supporting students with significant or persistent dysregulation, including facilitating FBA-informed problem solving and guiding development of behavior intervention and regulation-focused plans Participate in IEP, MET, and problem-solving meetings as a consultant, building team capacity rather than serving as a primary direct service provider Deliver job-embedded coaching to teachers, paraprofessionals, and teams; model co-regulation, de-escalation, proactive supports, and inclusive practices aligned to LRE and student independence Support teams in aligning adult support with student needs, including planning for independence and fade of support Design and facilitate professional learning on brain-based behavior, trauma-informed and prevention-focused practices, and classroom regulation strategies, and support implementation into daily practice Collaborate with administrators, school social workers, psychologists, special education staff, and families to ensure cohesive, inclusive, and student-centered support across settingsQualifications:
Required One of the following: Michigan Teaching Certificate (with Special Education Endorsement) School Psychologist, School Social Worker, or related credential BCBA or equivalent behavior analysis expertise Minimum 3 years of experience supporting students with behavioral or regulation needs in school or clinical settings Demonstrated experience with: Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) Data-based decision-making Preferred Experience in a consultative or coaching role across classrooms or systemsKnowledge of:
MTSS / PBIS
frameworks Inclusive practices (LRE, UDL) Trauma-informed and prevention-based approaches CASEL framework Experience leading professional learning and staff coachingSkills & Dispositions:
Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills Ability to analyze systems and adult practices, not just student behavior Excellent communication and facilitation skills High level of initiative, organization, and adaptability Commitment to inclusive, student-centered practicesApplication Process:
