Job Summary:
The Behavioral Assistant (BA) will work under the supervision of a Licensed Clinical Professional, providing behavioral support to children, adolescents, and families involved with the Children's System of Care (CSOC) in New Jersey. The Behavioral Assistant will implement Behavioral Assistant Individual Service Plans (BAISPs) to provide direct care and support to individuals with behavioral health needs. This role operates within the guidelines established by the New Jersey Department of Children and Families (DCF), Medicaid, and CSOC, ensuring the delivery of quality, individualized care that promotes positive behavioral changes.
Key Responsibilities:
Behavioral Support:
Implement individualized behavioral assistant individual service plan (BAISP) based on the recommendations of a licensed clinician, and monitor client progress regularly.
Data Collection:
Track and document client behaviors, interventions, and progress in accordance with Medicaid and CSOC guidelines.
Collaborative Care:
Work closely with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure consistent implementation of behavior management strategies across different settings (home, school, community).
Skill Building:
Provide direct, one-on-one behavioral teaching, modeling, and reinforcement to individuals to improve social skills, daily living skills, and adaptive behavior.
Crisis Management:
Recognize and respond to crisis situations or challenging behaviors according to the client's behavior plan and CSOC protocols. Ensure client and staff safety at all times.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of sessions, including weekly service encounter delivery forms, session progress notes, and potential incident reports.
Client Advocacy:
Serve as an advocate for clients by supporting their needs and promoting their rights in coordination with families, treatment teams, and community resources.
Supervision and Training:
Participate in ongoing training, professional development, and regular supervision meetings with supervising clinicians to ensure competency in behavioral techniques and compliance with regulatory standards.
Compliance:
Adhere to all applicable guidelines and regulations set forth by CSOC, DCF, and Medicaid, including those related to billing, confidentiality, and treatment planning.
Certification:
If not already certified, Behavioral Assistance Certification must be obtained within 6 months of start.
Qualifications:
Education:
o High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, education, or a related field is a plus.
Experience:
o Experience in behavioral health, special education, direct care services, and or with children, adolescents, and families. o Experience working within CSOC, DCF, or other New Jersey behavioral health systems is a plus.
Skills:
o Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. o Ability to work effectively with individuals with behavioral health disorders and their families. o Knowledge of behavioral therapy principles (e.g., Applied Behavior Analysis - ABA) and techniques. ▪ This will be acquired through the certification process o Ability to manage challenging behaviors and implement crisis intervention strategies.
Certifications:
o If not already certified, Behavioral Assistance Certification must be obtained within 6 months of start as outlined CSOC.
Background Check:
o Must pass background checks as required by New Jersey DCF and other relevant regulatory bodies.
Other Requirements:
Transportation:
Reliable transportation and ability to travel to clients' homes, schools, or community settings as needed.
Flexible Schedule:
Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to meet the needs of the clients.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to engage in physical activities such as standing, sitting, walking, and possibly restraining individuals if trained and necessary (per crisis management protocols).
Work Environment:
Work will primarily be in the community setting, including clients' homes, schools, and other locations as required.
Compensation:
$ 35+ per hour of face-to-face contact with youth
Pay:
$30.00 - $35.00 per hour
