The Assistant takes responsibility for the care and supervision of the children of the class. The Assistant supports the functions and activities of the Montessori classroom as directed by the Guide. Duties Under the direction of the Guide, supervise classroom and playground activities. Protect the peace and privacy of the children and the Guide by positively redirecting anyone who is interfering. This may include redirecting students, parents or other visitors to the classroom. Support the preparation of and be responsible for the maintenance of a developmentally appropriate classroom environment. Maintain the order and cleanliness of the environment. This includes hallways, storage areas, outdoor areas and any part of the campus that affects the quality of the educational experience. Assist in the creation, repair and care of appropriate materials as directed by the Guide. Help in the submission of an inventory to the School office at the end of each school year. Under the direction of the Guide, assist with maintenance of current, accurate classroom records. Under the supervision of the Guide, maintain class order through positive discipline techniques. Notify the Guide of any difficulties regarding students, parents or staff members. Participate in Parent Education events and community events as requested. Establish and maintain a positive and objective relationship with parents. Requirements Demonstrate respectful rapport and kindness toward all students Assume responsibility for the safety and well-being of the students Maintain order through positive discipline techniques Attend and participate in all scheduled Staff Meetings throughout the year Work cooperatively with all faculty, staff and administrative employees Abide by and comply with all reasonable rules and regulations and policies of the school as well as the school's licensing bodies through the State of Nevada and the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services. This includes maintaining any requirements such as CPR/First Aid training, TB clearance, continuing education hours, and other professional criteria Physical Requirements Full range of total body mobility without encumbrances (i.e. run across playground to assist injured child) The ability to climb stairs, ladders or play structures The ability to bend or stretch in all directions The ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds The ability to sit or stand for long periods of time inside or out on the playground The ability to move furniture (i.e. move shelves, tables, chairs, etc.) with assistance
