Exempt Position Summary The Restorative Behavior Specialist supports teachers in implementing consistent, proactive classroom behavior systems that address yellow-level behaviors as outlined in the school's Behavior Management Protocol. This position primarily focuses on coaching and supporting staff in positive behavior intervention and classroom management strategies. The Behavior Specialist may also directly support students during lunch or specials detention to reinforce restorative practices and reteaching of expectations. Primary Responsibilities Staff Coaching & Support (Majority of Role) Collaborate with teachers to develop and refine classroom management plans aligned with the school's behavior protocol. Provide in-class coaching, modeling, and feedback to teachers on effective strategies for managing yellow-level behaviors (e.g., classroom disruption, defiance, minor disrespect, hallway misbehavior, technology violations). Support teachers in implementing Tier 1 and Tier 2 behavioral interventions, including reteaching expectations, restorative circles, and positive reinforcement systems. Facilitate professional learning sessions and small-group trainings on proactive classroom management, de-escalation, and restorative practices. Serve as a thought partner in developing collaborative behavior plans when yellow-level behaviors become persistent. Student and Climate Support Supervise and facilitate lunch and special areas detention with a focus on restorative reflection and reteaching expectations. Support teachers in building positive relationships with students to reinforce prosocial behavior and accountability. Support implementation of schoolwide behavior systems, expectations, and recognition programs. Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and administrators to monitor behavior data trends and identify students or classrooms in need of additional support. Documentation and Communication Maintain records of coaching sessions, classroom visits, and intervention plans. Support teachers in documenting interventions and PowerSchool entries for yellow-level incidents. Communicate with families when needed to reinforce positive behavior partnerships between school and home. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, or related field (Master's preferred). NYS Teacher Certification, School Counselor, or related certification preferred. Demonstrated expertise in classroom management, positive behavior supports, and restorative practices. Strong interpersonal and coaching skills with the ability to work collaboratively with staff. Experience working with middle school students preferred. Core Competencies Knowledge of PBIS, MTSS, and restorative approaches. Culturally responsive and trauma-informed mindset. Ability to model calm, consistent, and supportive responses to student behavior. Strong organizational and communication skills.
