Developmental Support Assistant Cambria Heights, NY 11411 $17

  • Part-time This is a 6-week part-time Pilot Program and summer position with the potential opportunity for a permanent position;
Time:
M-F 11:30 am
  • 2:45 pm The Developmental Support Assistant supports the daily implementation of the Kidz R.
I.S.E. (Regulation Inspired by Sensory Experiences) Learning Enrichment Program, working under the supervision of the Developmental Specialist. You will work directly with young children to promote self-regulation, social participation, learning readiness, and developmental growth through sensory-motor and play-based experiences. This program serves young children (3-5 years of age) and maintains a maximum child-to-staff ratio of 12:3. Training will be provided. Qualifications College students or individuals pursuing degrees in Psychology, Education, Child Development, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Social Work, Recreation, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Experience working with young children in childcare, camp, educational, recreational, enrichment, or developmental settings preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Positive, patient, and nurturing approach when working with children. Reliable, organized, and dependable. Responsibilities Assist the Developmental Specialist in implementing sensory-motor, play-based, and developmental activities. Support children during structured group activities, movement experiences, creative play, and social interactions. Encourage positive behavior, participation, and engagement through consistent routines and positive reinforcement. Assist children with transitions between activities and daily routines. Provide individualized support and encouragement to help children feel successful and included in program activities. Help prepare materials, equipment, and activity spaces before each session. Assist with setup, organization, and cleanup of program areas. Monitor children's safety and well-being throughout program activities. Model positive communication, empathy, cooperation, and respect when interacting with children and families. Collaborate with the Developmental Specialist and program directors to maintain a structured, engaging, and supportive environment. Support the overall mission and goals of the Kidz R.I.S.E. Program. Preferred Characteristics Energetic and enthusiastic personality. Enjoys working with young children. Creative, patient, and supportive. Strong teamwork and communication skills. Ability to follow directions while taking initiative when appropriate. Passion for helping children build confidence, independence, self-regulation, and social skills. Commitment to creating a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all children.
