Job Description

Behavioral Specialist We are seeking a dedicated Behavioral Specialist to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across our programs. This role plays a key part in assessing behavioral needs, developing person-centered support plans, and implementing effective, evidence-based interventions. The ideal candidate is compassionate, collaborative, and skilled in designing individualized strategies that promote independence and quality of life. Key Responsibilities Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and develop individualized Positive Behavior Support Plans in collaboration with program staff. Implement prevention and intervention strategies using positive, person-centered methodologies. Communicate regularly with all members of the care team—including individuals served, direct support staff, managers, families, advocates, support coordinators, and therapists—to ensure cohesive and high-quality services. Document progress, evaluate interventions, and adjust support plans as needed. Complete behavioral assessments upon request and provide clear recommendations. Actively participate in treatment team meetings and maintain a strong person-centered approach to care. Train staff on proper implementation of behavior support and management plans, including documentation, techniques, and guidelines. Support individuals in developing skills that increase independence. Provide crisis management and de-escalation support when necessary. Expand knowledge in psychopathology, crisis intervention, and behavioral therapy. Attend psychiatric/psychological consultations as appropriate. Model professionalism, dignity, and respect in all interactions. Engage in ongoing professional development and training opportunities. Provide occasional on-call clinical support to direct care staff and program management. Develop resources, plans, and assessments to address individuals' identified needs. Prepare and distribute timely reports according to agency standards. Collaborate effectively with administrative and program staff. Complete other duties as assigned by executive program leadership. Hours Able to work Daytime, evenings and at least 1 weekend per month to train all staff across the program. Education & Experience Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, counseling or Applied Behavior Analysis or a Behavior Specialist License. Minimum of 3 years of experience working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities. Strong knowledge of Behavior Support Plans, Functional Behavior Assessments, evaluation methods, staff training and assessment processes. Pre-Requisites Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, or early mornings. Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation. Strong documentation and time-management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Demonstrated professionalism and commitment to confidentiality. Thorough understanding of agency policies and procedures.
