Overview Join our dedicated team as a Behavioral Health Support Specialist, providing vital support to individuals with developmental disabilities and behavioral health needs in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area. Responsibilities Assist individuals in completing coordinated care appointments. Engage with clients to offer mental health peer support rooted in shared lived experience, fostering trust and motivation for recovery. Assist individuals in developing personalized isp/wellness plans and connecting them with appropriate behavioral health resources. Utilize crisis intervention skills to de-escalate situations and ensure safety during mental health crisis or addiction crises. Implement crisis management techniques to respond effectively to urgent client needs while maintaining composure and professionalism. Document interactions accurately within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with privacy standards. Provide mentoring and motivational interviewing to encourage positive behavioral changes and sustain recovery efforts. Collaborate with clinical teams, social workers, and community agencies to coordinate comprehensive support services for clients. Maintain detailed medical documentation, including care plans, behavioral reports, and progress notes in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Collaborate with team members to develop, review, and update personalized care plans that address behavioral health goals. Foster a positive environment by managing behaviors effectively through behavior management techniques and de-escalation strategies. Requirements Prior experience or training in behavioral health, mental health skill building, or special education is highly preferred. Demonstrated ability to work compassionately with individuals with mental health disorders and co-occurring Strong understanding of medical terminology, medical records management, and HIPAA compliance. Excellent communication skills for documenting observations, reporting progress, and collaborating with team members. Ability to assist clients with coordinated care while promoting independence. Knowledge of coping, behavior management strategies and behavior intervention techniques. Pay:
$18.00 - $23.00 per hour
