Behavior Support Assistant
LOCATION

QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma required; Associate's degree preferred. Experience working with children or adolescents preferred. Training in behavior management, crisis intervention, or related areas preferred. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Behavior Support Assistant works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, counselors, and other support personnel to promote positive student behavior and a safe learning environment. The position assists in implementing behavioral interventions, supporting students experiencing behavioral challenges, monitoring student progress, and providing proactive strategies that contribute to student success.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist administrators and staff in maintaining a safe, orderly, and positive school environment. Provide behavioral support and supervision to students who require additional assistance. Implement behavior intervention strategies and supports as directed by administrators and student support teams. Assist with the implementation and monitoring of behavior intervention plans, behavior contracts, and restorative practices. Attend professional development events in order to learn, maintain, and advance best practices in behavior management. Support students in developing appropriate social, emotional, and behavioral skills. Provide individual and small-group behavioral support as assigned. Monitor student behavior throughout the school day, including common areas, transitions, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned locations. Assist with de-escalation and crisis intervention when student behaviors interfere with learning or safety. Document behavioral incidents, interventions, and student progress as required. Collaborate with teachers, school counselors, administrators, and other staff to identify and address behavioral concerns. Participate in student support team meetings and other school-based problem-solving meetings as requested. Assist with attendance monitoring and follow-up efforts related to student engagement and school success. Support the implementation of schoolwide behavior expectations and positive behavior supports. Communicate professionally with parents and guardians regarding behavioral concerns when directed by administration. Maintain accurate records and reports related to assigned duties. Serve as a positive role model for students through professional conduct and effective interpersonal relationships. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Designee.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Duties are performed in classrooms, offices, hallways, cafeterias, gymnasiums, outdoor areas, and other school settings. Physical demands may include standing, walking, bending, lifting, and assisting with the safe management of student behaviors. Occasional travel may be required. Operation of standard office and classroom equipment is required.
