School Year Primary Purpose:
Mentor, facilitate and support identified at
  • risk and designated special education students who experience behavior difficulties.
The Behavior Interventionist (BI) works with the students to help them to be productive and successful in the school community. The BI is also a resource to the classroom teacher. Ensure safety on the school campus.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED Highly qualified status for paraprofessionals
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work with children with behavior problems Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Ability to communicate effectively
Experience:
Previous experience working with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support:
1. Serve at-risk students experiencing behavior problems as assigned by counselor and/or administrator. 2. Provide teachers with insight regarding possible obstacles to student's progress. 3. Regularly conduct social skills lessons for students. 4. Maintain documentation about all assigned students' progress and the interventions provided.
Student Management:
5. Monitor students' progress/behavior in the classroom and other campus settings. 6. Provide feedback to teachers and administrators on student behavior. 7. Develop motivational system for assigned students. 8. Report behavior progress to teachers. 9. Serve DAEP or STARS students weekly as assigned by campus administrator. 10. Provide behavior intervention in crisis situations. This may include restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed. 11. Work with administrators to maintain an orderly and safe school environment. 12. Observe students during passing periods between classes.
